What You Should Know Before You Play

The object of the game is to be the first player to use what you know (or learn) of U.S. state capitals to get 50 points by guessing the states of the GeoPlunge cards your opponent has. Your goal is to guess the states of your opponent’s GeoPlunge cards before he or she guesses your states.

Use the GeoPlunge cards only, and they are shuffled only before the game begins.

How to Play

·        The game is played one round at a time. To start each round, deal each player 1 card. The round ends when one player wins the round.

·        The players take turns trying to guess the state of the other player’s card and the player that guesses correctly first wins the round. The dealer guesses first on the first round. After that, whoever loses a round guesses first to begin the next round.

·        When it’s your turn to guess, your opponent tells you the state capital of his or her card. Your opponent then reads to you the name of his or her state and each of its border states, in whatever order your opponent wants to say them. But your opponent doesn’t tell you which of the states read to you is the state of his or her card and which are all of the border states. You then try to guess the state of your opponent’s card.

·        When it is your opponent’s turn to guess, you do the same thing as your opponent did when it was your turn to guess.

·        When a player is dealt Hawaii or Alaska, that player may say that both Hawaii and Alaska are possible choices (even though they don’t border each other).

·        Whoever wins the round, puts both cards dealt in that round in a pile next to that player.

Keeping Score

You get 10 points every time you win a round. (If you want to play the extended version of this game, you get 5 points every time you win a round.)
