Capital Fish:  2 Players

What You Should Know Before You Play

The object of the game is to use what you learn about U.S. state capitals to win. Your goal is to collect winning groups of cards based on states whose state capitals begin with the same first letter.  Your opponent, of course, is attempting to do the same thing.

Play a round at a time until someone wins 3 rounds.  That player wins the game. Use only the GeoPlunge cards, and shuffle the deck after every round.

How to Play

¨         To start each round, deal each player 7 cards.

¨         Throughout the game you and your opponent take turns asking each other if the other player has any cards whose state capital begins with a certain first letter. (The dealer asks first to begin the game.)

¨         Whenever it’s your turn to ask, you can only ask if your opponent has any cards whose state capital begins with a certain first letter, if at the time you ask you have in your hand a card whose state capital begins with that first letter.  (For example, you can’t ask if your opponent has any cards whose state capital begins with the letter “S”, unless at the time you ask you have at least 1 card in your hand whose state capital begins with the letter “S”).

--   If your opponent does have 1 or more cards that have a state capital that begin with the first letter you asked about, your opponent gives those cards to you, and then it’s your turn to ask again (this time, of course, you ask about a different first letter for a state capital).

--    If your opponent does not have any cards that have a state capital that begins with the first letter you asked about, you then take the next top card in the deck.  It is now your opponent’s turn to ask.

¨         To win a round you must be the first player to have one group of 3 cards, and a second group of 4 cards, such that for each group

All of the cards in the group have state capitals that begin with the same first letter.

¨      A player cannot use the same card in both winning groups.
